On 28 February, 2023, the International Institute for Trade and Development (Public Organization) in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) organized the hybrid seminar on “the Futures of Maritime Supply Chains in Southeast Asia” at Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok.  

The key objective of this seminar is to discuss and exchange views about the future of maritime supply chains in Southeast Asia and Thailand from the public, private, and academic sectors. These opinions and recommendations would reflect the voices of MSMEs, and contribute to the formulation of policy recommendations to the related sector.

On this occasion, Mr. Manu Sithiprasasana, Executive Director of the International Institute for Trade and Development, delivered an opening remarks. This seminar was divided into 2 sessions, Panel discussion: The Future of Maritime Transportation in Thailand was discussed by Dr. Chaichan Chareonsuk, Chairman, Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC), Mr. Piset Rittapirom, Chairman, Bangkok Shipowners and Agents Association (BSAA), Ms. Kamolwan Kularbwong, Senior Specialist in Maritime Transport, the Marine Department, Ministry of Transport, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sathaporn Opasanon, Department of International Business, Logistics, and Transport, Thammasat University, as moderator.

In the second session of the seminar, lectures on “Review of Maritime Transport 2022” were presented by representatives from UNCTAD, Ms. Hassiba Benamara, Economic Affairs Officer, Transport Section, Ms. Luisa Rodriguez, Economic Affairs Officer, Trade & Logistics Branch, Ms. Celine Bacrot, Economic Affairs Officer, Trade Facilitation Section, Ms. Regina Asariotis, Chief, Policy and Legislation Section, and Ms. Sirikan Prasertying, Director, Office of International Cooperation, ITD, as moderator.
