The International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD), in collaboration with the Center on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Co-hosted The Expert Consultation Workshop on Asia-Pacific Integrated Rural Development and Sustainable Resource Management in The 21st Century: Strategic Actions at The Regional and The National Level from October 6-7, 2023, in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. Mr. Wimon Punkong, the Director of the Development and Research Promotion Division, and Mr. Khobtham Neelapaichit, a senior researcher, represented ITD at the event, which included representatives from government agencies of various Asian-Pacific countries and from international organizations as well as over 40 participants.
The primary objective of this practical expert consultation workshop was to gather insights from experts in regional development in the Asia-Pacific region. The workshop aimed to identify challenges and formulate collaborative strategies for poverty eradication, food security, equitable resource management, gender equality, climate change adaptation, disaster resilience, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr. Wimon Punkong presented the concept of the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) and its alignment with Thailand’s sustainable development goals. He highlighted that the BCG concept serves as a vital strategic tool for economic development and the achievement of sustainable development goals. The Thai government anticipates that the BCG model will play a crucial role in closing income gaps in society, adding economic value to the BCG industry, generating income for grassroots communities, and contributing to the realization of SDGs.
