From July 23-26, 2024, Mr. Wimon Punkong, Deputy Director (Academic) of the International Trade and Development Institute or ITD, along with the research team, visited Jakarta, Indonesia, to conduct interviews for the research study “The Adaptation to Climate Change Mitigation-Related Trade Measures to Enhance MSMEs Competitiveness.” The team met with representatives from key organizations involved in climate change mitigation trade measures, including the Trade Policy Agency, the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, the Rubber Association of Indonesia (GAPKINDO), the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), and also paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia.

As an ASEAN member, Indonesia is affected by climate change mitigation trade measures, particularly in the palm oil sector, which is a major export commodity. The research team gathered information on the impact of climate change mitigation trade measures such as CBAM and EUDR on Indonesia’s exports, issues faced, and adaptations made. This data will be highly valuable for the research study.
