With the phase out of the Multi-Fiber Agreement and the end of guaranteed quotas for Bangladesh garment products in the EU and the US, the RMG industry of Bangladesh faces many competitive challenges. The increased focus of international brands on ensuring garment producers in their supply chains comply with codes of conducts has created a stronger linkage between labour standards and trade than has heretofore been experience by Bangladesh’s RMG industry.
