The office of International Cooperation within the ITD will host a focus group discussion entitled “CLMVT Connect: Advancing Trade and Development Cooperation.” The target audience for this event includes commercial ambassadors or representatives from CLMV countries, as well as representatives from educational agencies, governmental entities, and the private sector in Thailand. The primary objective of the workshop is to engender collaborative thinking on the challenges and opportunities in trade and development within Thailand and the CLMV nations.
This focus group discussion aims to achieve two main goals: Firstly, it seeks to identify mechanisms for cooperation on non-tariff measures (NTMs) between Thailand and CLMV countries, with the intention of formulating collective trade measures. Such collaboration is envisioned to enhance the overall competitiveness of the businesses involved. Secondly, the workshop aims to facilitate contemporary and future trade through digital platforms, including digital trade and electronic commerce (e-commerce). The rising popularity of these forms of trade, both domestically and internationally, underscores the increasing significance of cross-border e-commerce. However, challenges such as impediments to seamless cross-border transactions, logistical infrastructure, and pertinent legal frameworks persist. These challenges are particularly pronounced in the context of Thailand and its neighboring CLMV countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam).
The collaborative deliberations during this focus group discussion are anticipated to yield insights and shared conclusions that contribute to the overarching goals of economic sustainability, inclusive economic growth, and social and environmental responsibility. These outcomes are expected to manifest as policy recommendations and action plans, fostering sustained efforts to promote sustainability in both Thailand and the CLMV countries.
- To cultivate knowledge and mutual understanding in various dimensions, including economic development, trade, investment, sustainability, and social and environmental responsibility, within the contexts of Thailand and CLMV countries.
- To exchange opinions and views among participants as policymakers, proponents of trade and investment policy, or representatives from the educational sector agency, government, and/or private sector. This collaborative discourse is intended to generate policy recommendations pertaining to trade and development for both Thailand and the CLMV countries.
- to establish a robust network for cooperation, fostering the exchange of information on trade, investment, and international development. This network will encompass commercial ambassadors, representatives from educational agencies, and individuals from the government and/or private sector, with the goal of addressing current and future trends in these domains between Thailand and the CLMV countries.
